The centre was designed around the famous oak tree which is over 200 years old, naturally providing an outdoor area for a break during your shopping experience. Around the shopping centre there are a number of artistic additions including the ‘Stained Glass’ portraying the famous city highway grid system, the Time Machine and an a variety of sculptures.
| Art The opening of Midsummer Place in October 2000 gave the talents of artists specialising in all different types of media yet another platform within Milton Keynes.
On of the top 'ART' attractions is the Milton Keynes Time Machine, a wonderful example of man's ingenuity in invention and construction. One of the largest indoor animated clocks in the country; it weighs over 4 tonnes and took two years to build. Conceived by the artist Kit Williams, it combines illlusion, intrigue and fantasy within a glorious timepiece, for young and old to enjoy.
The other main 'ART' attraction is the striking feature within the Centre that is the huge colourful window in the south wing (opposite the Time Machine), giving a unique portrayal of Milton Keynes' famous highway grid system. The window was created by renowned stained glass artist Ann Smyth.
Other 'ART' includes a Bronze Book Sculpture and FRINGEMK art boards.
